After hiding in his studio for months, producing all kinds of music from soundscapes to ongoing jams, Florinsz finally surfaced with his musical testament to better times, friends abroad and loves lost.
There are lots of storylines to be discovered in the different pieces, reflecting all kinds of wondering, physical and spiritual. Violets & Yellows has a mellow vibe to open the EP and welcomes us in the realms of Florinsz’ mind. The next track turns it up a bit with grimy grooves as Florinsz’ signature deep and colourful soundscapes are blended with more up-tempo percussion: Massachusetts Ave, guiding us to more adventurous parts of the world. And in the dark and distant mist of destinations one does not happily explore, there’s a comforting soul to be found in Tremont Temple that tells us we’re not lost after all. We’re just exploring boundaries within ourselves and with the right attitude, there’s no need to fear any door left unopened. Three different tracks for three different parts of the night, sharing one singular soul.
As it’s sometimes difficult to connect the minds and souls of people, music has always been the key and catalyser to do so. The interpretation SHMLSS gave to Violets & Yellows shows how they tapped in to Florinsz story and made it their own by stretching the colours into an everlasting cosmic disco painting, with acid lines eventually taking over to leave one a little distorted yet satisfied with new energy.
To close the EP: from the much acclaimed talent Stijn Sadée comes an epic edit of Massachusetts Ave which starts off easy going, but is soon enriched with old school claps, classic synths and after two minutes introduces the magical marimba, one Stijn actually made himself out of an old guitar and rake. It only shows to tell what an incredible artist Stijn is, being able to merge such ideas and craftwork into music that honours the original stories by Florinsz, and adding Stijn’s personal sound and efforts.
